If we had to choose our top city for everything tango in the U.S., of course it would be NYC! There are plenty of Argentine tango dancers who live there and run great organizations which offer a varied range of tango lessons and milongas.
One of them is Astoria Tango Club, in the heart of Queens.
Another good reference when dancing in NYC is Karina Romero.
In terms of milongas, you can find very different styles and levels all around the city and of course it depends on what you are looking for. You can dance on a windy Pier by the Hudson River, at Central Park, the All-night-milonga and so on! NYC has endless option for everyones’ taste. We appreciate smaller milongas, with excellent music and a good level of dance, and because of this the one we loved the most by far was El Destino at Solas, organized by Tine.
Also, if you are interested in music, the world renown virtuoso pianist, arranger and composer Pablo Estigarribia moved recently to NYC and he is a great reference to check out every single time you are doing your tango plans! If you love Argentine tango, you should not miss the opportunity to listen to him playing. He represents the tradition, the present, and the future of our beloved tango music.
